Teaching Shakespeare
On September 20, 2013, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop in Houston for forty-two secondary-level language arts teachers on teaching the plays of William Shakespeare.
Curriculum
Content was aligned with the TEKS, with particular emphasis placed on newly added or revised standards. Faculty lectures addressed the historical and cultural contexts of Shakespeare's works, the classical sources of Shakespearean tragedy, approaches to teaching Shakespeare's comedies, and teaching Shakespeare using performance-based strategies.
Faculty
Workshop faculty included J. Dennis Huston (Rice University) and Elizabeth Richmond-Garza, John Rumrich, and Paul Sullivan, all of The University of Texas at Austin.
