Education
Texas Storytime, Humanities Texas’s family reading program, supports school-readiness and promotes early childhood literacy. Regularly held in schools and public libraries, Texas Storytime encourages participation in family engagement programs and cultivates a culture of reading among parents, teachers, and community members. The program increases family members’ confidence in and enthusiasm for reading by building familiarity with library collections and resources and reinforcing reading strategies. Texas Storytime program facilitators, storytellers, and featured authors engage participants, create discussion, and foster group conversation through age-appropriate books that advance an understanding and appreciation of Texas’s diverse cultures.
Beginning in summer 2020, Humanities Texas also began offering online sessions of Texas Storytime due to school and library closures resulting from COVID-19. In-person and online Texas Storytime programs have been held in partnership with schools and libraries in Austin, Harlingen, Lufkin, Manor, Midland, San Antonio, and San Marcos.
