The American Revolution

In the fall of 2016, Humanities Texas held three one-day teacher workshops throughout the state focusing on teaching the American Revolution.

Curriculum

Topics addressed included the colonies' growing separation from Britain, the Declaration of Independence, turning points of the Revolutionary War, and George Washington as war leader.

The workshops emphasized close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Content was aligned with the secondary social studies TEKS. Teachers received books and other instructional materials and were trained in the examination and interpretation of primary sources.

Faculty

Workshop faculty included Denver Brunsman (George Washington University), Woody Holton (University of South Carolina), James Kirby Martin (University of Houston), and Bill Meier (Texas Christian University).
